Summary: Integrated Compound Inventories Drive Efficiencies
A mid-size drug discovery company was running design/make/test/analyze cycles to identify drug candidates, but their throughput was impacted by inaccurate inventory tracking. bPrescient assessed their current lab tracking systems, then designed and implemented a solution that involved decommissioning one system and implementing an integration connector between the two remaining systems. This led to fewer lab tracking errors, reduced re-work, and shortened screening cycle times.
Challenge: Compound Registration & Inventory Not Connected
The client had separate systems for compound registration, compound synthesis tracking, and sample inventory storage. Because these systems were not integrated, inventory levels frequently fell out of sync with the actual materials on hand. Errors and re-work resulted from compound shortages which caused costly project delays. In addition, one of the systems was a heavily customized tool that was difficult to modify and was expensive to support.
Solution: Systems Integration & Data Connectors
bPrescient assessed the design of all three systems and defined end-to-end requirements for reliable compound management and inventory tracking. After a review of options with client stakeholders, bPrescient moved forward with a plan to decommission the current inventory tool, migrate inventory to another existing system, and implement a vendor-supplied connector between the two remaining systems to ensure consistency across the platforms.
Outcome: Improved Compound Ordering & Management
The new integrated system provided scientists with accurate, real-time visibility into physical stocks and locations, which meant reduced errors in compound ordering and shortening of synthesis and screening cycle times. This reduced the cost and time to perform each screening and design cycle, making overall drug discovery more efficient.
